Our freshwater venue is the pond at Best Island. This is on private property and is not a public area.
We also sail at one of the two courses laid out at Monaco when the tides are suitable.
If you are passing when we are sailing, call in and have look around. You’ll be very welcome.
Best Island
This fresh water pond is an excellent year round sailing venue only 8 km from Richmond. Consistent winds are a feature of this venue. You will find us here most Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Monaco Courses
Weekday non competition sailing is on one of the two courses above when the tide height is suitable. When the high tide exceeds 4.0m we can sail for approximately 1.25hrs before and after high tide at the Honest Lawyer launching site. Sailing from the Monaco Boat Club launching site suits most tides, however this is a more exposed to the southerly wind and sheltered from the sea breeze until later.

I have been given an RC yacht and am interested in having a look at your venues and meeting some of you. I have never had an RC anything but have sailed in my youth.

hi guys,
id love to buy my son a little RC speedboat, but wondering if it’s possible to use it at a suitable water area in the Nelson/ Richmond area.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thankyou
John D
The Best Island pond that Nelson Radio Sailing Club uses is strictly NO Power boats allowed. You could try the public pond at Mariri on the causeway road to Motueka.
