Best Island
This is our home venue and we sail here five afternoons a week as listed on the Start Page and Sailing Calendar.
This is a fenced, private pond situated 7kms from Richmond and 14kms from Nelson.
Situated on a valley floor surround by farmland, with few large trees, it offers good, all year sailing and consistent winds, especially when the sea breeze arrives. With Nelson’s sunny climate, we lose very few days to bad weather.
While there is no public access, if we are sailing, we welcome you to call in.
Monaco
Prior to our obtaining our home location at Best Island this was one of our regular venues. It is subject to the height of the tide and not used for regular sailing, except for the DF65s who try to sail at least once a year. You may still find other RC yachts sailing there at high tide but not on a regular basis.
Others
We also hold or attend special events elsewhere, such as the Sea Scout regatta at Mapua, and of course our members regularly travel throughout New Zealand and overseas to attend major events.
